Opera for Everyone

New app makes opera accessible for more people

Together with the Swedish Royal Opera, HiQ has developed a solution that makes the opera more accessible to everyone.

Results

HiQ has together with Opera developed a solution that makes opera accessible to more people.
With an app, you get the text of the show translated and read via the headphones to the phone. It is also possible to choose a commentator track where the performance is even interpreted visually. The digital solution is discreet and easy to use for everyone – not just for those with visual impairment or dyslexia, for example. The solution simply opens the opera to a wider audience.

“Digitization gives us more ways to welcome people than ever before. The app is a very good tool for making Opera more accessible to everyone”

Mission

The Royal Opera’s mission includes reaching as large and wide an audience as possible. Within the framework of this work, it is included to constantly reach new target groups and make the live performance available to more people.

– The opera is for everyone, it is part of our cultural heritage. Our mission is to open the doors to us, and we must open them wide. Digitization gives us more ways to welcome people than ever before. The app is a very good tool for making Opera more accessible to everyone, says Louise Stehn, sales manager at Opera.

Solution

HiQ and the Royal Opera have developed an app where you can get the show’s text translated and read via the headphones to the phone. It is also possible to choose a commentator track where the performance is even interpreted visually. The launch took place in September 2017 during a performance of Leoš Janáček’s emotionally charged opera Jenůfa.

The digital solution is discreet and easy to use for everyone – not just for those with visual impairment or dyslexia, for example. The solution simply makes opera more accessible to everyone.
