HiQ’s Gustav Isaksson on Insights from the Podcast Security Work with Gustav

Information security, physical security, and personnel security. Three areas often treated separately but in practice tightly interconnected. For Gustav Isaksson at HiQ, it is precisely this interplay that is the core – and also the foundation of his podcast Security Work with Gustav.

Inviting a Wide Range of Roles

“For me, it’s about inviting guests from across the security field to talk about leadership, communication, and the human factor – always from a security perspective.”

For listeners, this means a mix of CISOs, product owners, consultants, emergency preparedness managers, and others who share their experiences and perspectives. The result is conversations that demonstrate the breadth of security work – but also the recurring themes that always come back.

Themes That Make a Difference

One clear theme is the service perspective. When Gustav interviewed Pierre Anderberg, Head of Security at Volvo Autonomous Solutions, it became clear how important it is to make security work simple and accessible. Meeting the business with a “yes” and making it easy for people to do the right thing can, in the long run, be more successful than putting up barriers.

Another recurring theme is the view of security as a business risk. Several episodes highlight that security in product development for critical infrastructure is no longer a complement – it is a fundamental requirement to even be relevant in the market.

At the same time, the podcast shows just how broad the security field actually is. When consultant Eva Solberg joined to discuss public procurement, topics such as legislation, needs analysis, and supplier dialogue were highlighted as crucial elements. And when emergency preparedness officer Jan Sundling participated, it became clear how much is about culture – and the importance of daring to practice, even failing, in order to grow.

The Key Lesson So Far

“For me, the lesson is clear: technology is necessary, but it is people, communication, and leadership that determine whether security efforts truly work. Security is never something that happens in an isolated corner. It is a shared responsibility – and only when everyone contributes do organizations become truly resilient.”

The Podcast and the Job Go Hand in Hand

For Gustav, his role at HiQ means he gets to work every day with the issues he is most passionate about: genuinely strengthening organizations’ security work. The podcast then becomes a natural extension of his daily work – a forum to share perspectives, build knowledge, and inspire more people to think broadly about security.

Having employees like Gustav, who drive their own initiatives alongside their assignments, is also part of HiQ’s strength. It reflects the curiosity and drive to develop that characterize the culture – and that ultimately make both employees and customers stronger.
