What made you want to join HiQ, and what has made you stay?
I decided to join HiQ 1.5 years ago because of the company’s strong reputation in the consulting business. I was attracted by the variety of exciting opportunities and the chance to keep learning and developing new skills.
What has made me stay is the supportive and open atmosphere. Colleagues share knowledge through competence groups, inspire each other, and also make time for fun activities together. Since I’m from Bosnia, the “Better Swedish” competence group has been especially valuable – it gives me and other non-native speakers the chance to grow and improve our language skills together. For me, the combination of exciting technical work, great colleagues, and a culture that balances professionalism with fun is what makes HiQ special – and what makes me feel I truly belong here.
Can you tell us about an assignment through HiQ that has been particularly educational or exciting (to the extent that you’re able to talk about it)?
Through HiQ, I’ve had the chance to work at ABB Robotics as an Embedded Software Engineer. I’m part of the team that develops the software for the FlexPendant – a handheld device used to manually control robots. Day to day, my work is a mix of developing new functionalities, solving bugs, and collaborating with other teams to improve the final product. Of course, there’s also time for fika, which is an important part of building team spirit!
It’s been both educational and rewarding to contribute to a product that plays such a huge role in modern robotics. I’ve learned a lot about bridging the gap between humans and machines, and I find it very motivating to solve complex engineering problems that make a real difference in the industry.
How would you describe the team spirit and culture here?
The team spirit at HiQ is fantastic! There’s a strong culture of support and knowledge sharing. We collaborate closely at our office in Västerås, but we also have many fun team outings. The competence groups are another great part of the culture – for example, I’m part of the “Better Swedish” group. Coming from Bosnia, this has been a perfect opportunity for me and other non-native speakers to grow together and improve our Swedish language skills. We celebrate results together, support each other, make things simpler by sharing knowledge, and always find joy in both work and social activities.
What inspires you most in your work right now?
I’m very much inspired by my colleagues and the work environment, both at HiQ and at ABB Robotics. Working alongside talented engineers in an innovative field keeps me motivated every day. I also find inspiration in solving complex problems and developing solutions that make technology more intuitive and accessible for people.

I really enjoy cooking and watching movies. Mixing Swedish cuisine with Bosnian flavours has been both a challenge and a lot of fun, and sitting down to enjoy the result with a good movie is the perfect way to relax after work, if you ask me. By the way, I’ve watched every single movie on the IMDB Top 250 list – so if you need a recommendation for how to spend a weekend evening, just reach out!
