Rafael Lavatt

Meet Rafael – a backend developer who thrives when he can go straight from idea to code. By day, he works with cutting-edge tech; in his free time, you’ll find him chasing speed on the water or in the mountains.

What’s your role at HiQ, and what does a typical day look like?

I’m a backend developer currently on assignment at a smaller company. That means I get to spend most of my time doing what I love – writing code. We rarely get stuck in long meetings. Instead, we’re encouraged to build prototypes and test things right away. It’s exciting and a great way to learn!

What’s the best thing about working at HiQ?

The people! My colleagues are incredibly skilled, curious, and humble. It makes it easy—and fun—to grow and learn new things together.

What are you most proud of being part of?

Definitely two projects where we’re really pushing the boundaries in terms of tech. It’s amazing to work with the latest tools and methods—and even better when you see your work being used in real life. It’s not just buzzwords on a blog; it’s real solutions making a difference.

How would you describe HiQ’s culture?

Open, inclusive, and focused on learning. There’s always room to grow—and to be yourself.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re off work? What’s your “geeky thing”?

My geekiness is very seasonal. In summer, I’m all about sailing, and come winter, I strap on my skis and head for the slopes.
