With 30 years of experience in developing mission-critical software for defence and security, HiQ is now launching an integrated offering for next-generation defence capabilities.

The offering includes intelligent solutions where AI and software are embedded in everything from sensors and platforms to decision support, command-and-control systems, and simulation.

As an approved NATO supplier and one of the Nordic region’s most experienced players in security-classified development, HiQ is now strengthening its position within defence and security.

HiQ’s new offering covers the entire chain, from embedded systems and autonomous platforms to digital command-and-control and advanced simulation. It also includes data and integration solutions as well as secure software development for safety-critical environments.

“Software has become the backbone of modern defence capabilities. We are now building intelligence into every layer of the systems. The challenge is not only to develop more solutions, but to create environments where secure, traceable and verifiable software can be developed and deployed at the pace demanded by the geopolitical situation,” says Victor Nyberg, Defence Industry Expert at HiQ.

EU and NATO initiatives in defence, innovation and AI are at the same time driving new demands on how quickly the defence sector can turn software, data and integration into real operational capability. HiQ therefore sees a growing need for partners who can combine deep technical expertise and experience from safety-critical operations with the ability to take responsibility for the entire value chain, from sensors and platforms to command-and-control systems, simulation and decision support.

“With more than thirty years of experience from the Nordic and European defence industry, we have built a strong capability to connect hardware, software and operational delivery. The combination of deep technical expertise, experience of safety-critical environments and a strong local presence in the Nordics and Europe is a clear strength for us and our customers,” says Victor Nyberg, Defence Industry Expert at HiQ.

HiQ has extensive experience working with leading players in the defence industry and is approved as a technology supplier to NATO as well as a member of the Finnish Digital Defence Ecosystem. Today, the company works with everything from advanced simulation environments and AI-based systems to cybersecurity, safety-critical solutions for vital societal functions, as well as support in building structures, ways of working and platforms for secure large-scale software development.

Hi there 👋 I’m Jenny and I work in PR and Communications at HiQ. If you’d like to learn more about the great solutions we’re building at HiQ, or if you have any questions about us as a company, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

EcoGuard has developed a new product for smart buildings that gathers and presents data in a simple way, in a flexible solution that can be updated over time without needing to be replaced. HiQ has been chosen as the development partner, with an assignment that covers everything from the technology installed in the building to the user-friendly interface.

EcoGuard’s new product, Air Portal, functions as a digital hub in the property, collecting data from various meters and sensors and providing the basis for analysis and billing. The product is built on an open architecture, which means it can be adapted over time as technology changes, since much of the data collection, storage and export takes place directly in Air Portal.

“We are seeing strong demand for using data in smarter ways, in everything from buildings to industry. This assignment shows how we create value by combining technology, design and user experience in a single solution,” says Per Gustafsson, Regional Manager, HiQ Mälardalen.

The collaboration with EcoGuard strengthens HiQ’s position as a leading partner for delivering complete connected solutions throughout the entire process, from connected products to systems and intuitive user interfaces.

Strong team behind the delivery

HiQ has had a cross-functional team in place from the start and, in close collaboration with EcoGuard, has worked on the entire solution, from connectivity to finished service. The project has brought together specialist expertise in radio communication, systems architecture and design, which has made it possible to build a robust and user-friendly end-to-end solution.

“By bringing all the necessary expertise together in a single team, HiQ can better support the customer throughout the entire process. We are proud to be a partner throughout the journey and to contribute to a product that delivers substantial business value,” says Per Gustafsson, Regional Manager, HiQ Mälardalen.

For EcoGuard, the collaboration with HiQ means that development can be driven in a unified way with one partner who takes responsibility for both the technical platform in the background and the interface that customers work with every day. This results in shorter decision paths, clearer accountability and a faster route from idea to finished functionality.

Hello 👋 My name is Jenny, and I work with PR and communications at HiQ. If you’d like to learn more about the exciting solutions we’re developing at HiQ, or if you have any questions about us as a company, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

The evolving security landscape and increasing regulatory requirements are driving growing demand for protective security across both the public and private sectors. HiQ is strengthening its offering in this area by appointing Anders Spalding as Head of Protective Security.

Anders Spalding has a background as an intelligence officer in the Swedish Armed Forces and brings over 15 years of experience in intelligence operations and military security and counterintelligence. He has subsequently worked in protective security, both as a consultant and in a role responsible for personnel security at Bankgirot.

– Requirements for protective security are increasing rapidly, while many organisations lack the experience and structure needed to meet them. With Anders, we are strengthening our ability to support clients in managing these demands, both operationally and strategically, says Pernilla Rönn, Head of Cybersecurity at HiQ.

This initiative also reflects growing demand from existing clients, where security has become a more central part of operations.

– Protective security is an area where many organisations are undergoing a shift. It is not enough to comply with regulations. Organisations also need to understand how threats emerge in practice. I look forward to contributing that perspective, says Anders Spalding.

HiQ strengthens its position across the full security spectrum
As total defence considerations become more prominent, an increasing number of organisations are subject to protective security legislation. This places greater demands on everything from security vetting and background checks to long-term efforts to identify and mitigate insider-related risks.

With this appointment, HiQ strengthens its position across the full security spectrum, from cybersecurity to protective security and national security.

– Security needs to be managed as a whole. With this initiative, we can support our clients across all areas, from information security to personnel security and physical security, says Pernilla Rönn.

Hi 👋 My name is Jenny and I work with PR & Communications at HiQ. Would you like to learn more about the great solutions we work on at HiQ, or do you have questions about us as a company? Don’t hesitate to get in touch!

For the fifth consecutive year, HiQ is proud to be a partner of Women in Tech Sweden, continuing its long-term commitment to a more inclusive and gender-equal tech industry. The partnership extends throughout 2026 and includes participation at the #WITswe2026 conference on April 22.

This year’s theme, “Riding the Tides of Tech: Turning Pressure into Momentum,” highlights the rapid development of AI, evolving skill requirements, and how leadership and professional roles are transforming alongside technology.

– The tech industry is evolving faster than ever. For us at HiQ, it’s not just about keeping up with change – it’s about helping shape it in an inclusive and responsible way. Together with Women in Tech Sweden, we create space for more perspectives at a time when both technology and society are changing rapidly, says Peter Arrhenius, CEO of HiQ.

– We see new roles emerging while others are disappearing. This requires continuous learning, courage, and a culture where people are given the opportunity to grow. For HiQ, gender equality and diversity are integrated into how we build strong teams and deliver value to our clients. Our partnership with Women in Tech is an important part of that work, says Helena Herolf, Chief People Officer at HiQ.

Women in Tech Sweden has grown from an annual event into a movement with more than 30,000 members. Through networking, role models, and knowledge sharing, the organization provides a platform that inspires more women to choose – and remain in – the tech industry.

In times of uncertainty, it can be tempting to step back. Our partners are doing the opposite. They are choosing to stay, stand up, and take responsibility for how technology, skills, and opportunities are shaped going forward. That matters — not just for our members, but for the entire industry, says Åsa Johansen, Director, Women in Tech Sweden.

The Women in Tech Conference 2026 will take place on April 22 at Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre in Stockholm, bringing together talent, entrepreneurs, and leaders to explore how we can navigate – and lead – the tides of technology.
