Every Body – An Interactive Installation That Paves the Way for Inclusive Mobility

How do you create an experience that truly puts people at the center? Together with Volvo, HiQ has developed “Every Body” – an interactive installation at the World of Volvo experience center. Using cutting-edge technology and design, the installation visualizes Volvo’s vision for the future of mobility – where every body, every need, and every journey counts.

Client: Volvo
Industry: Automotive
Solution Area: Concept development, Design, UX, Unreal Engine 5, Computer vision-based motion tracking

The Challenge: An experience that moves – and moves with – the visitor

World of Volvo, located in central Gothenburg, is a new 22,000 m² landmark and experience center, home to a permanent exhibition exploring the future of mobility. Volvo Cars commissioned us to design the exhibition’s introductory experience – an installation that would welcome every visitor, both physically and emotionally.

The brief was clear: create an interactive, technologically innovative solution that centers around the individual. The experience needed to be intuitive, scalable, visually striking – and work without traditional interfaces or onboarding.

The Solution: Motion-based interaction with unique digital characters

To ensure a seamless and accessible user experience, we eliminated traditional interfaces and instead built the interaction around body movement. Using vision-based sensors and real-time motion tracking, the installation allows up to ten people to interact – both with each other and with the content – simply through presence and movement.

At the core is a virtual mirror that transforms each visitor into a unique, abstract character – inspired by forms and materials ranging from minerals and glass to electricity and code. We created eight base character types, but thanks to real-time generative design, every character is entirely unique. The result: an experience where no two are alike – just like real life.

The installation is composed of two LED screens totaling 30 m². In idle mode, hundreds of particles float freely. When a visitor enters the experience area, particles gather to form a character and start responding to movement and proximity. When the visitor exits, the character dissolves.

The Result: A standout attraction for all ages

The “Every Body” installation quickly became a crowd favorite. On opening day alone, the exhibition welcomed 3,000 visitors, with projections exceeding 300,000 visitors in the first year. The installation has been highlighted in media, promotional materials – and most importantly, by the visitors themselves.

By combining technology, art, and interactive design, we’ve created an experience that both embodies and communicates Volvo’s core message: that the future of mobility must be inclusive and centered around the unique needs of each individual.

This is technology that doesn’t just impress – it connects.
